  • How does the navy promotion system work.
The promotion system in the navy is more complicated than in the army and differs from rank to rank.

    Midshipman - Lieutenant
There are 2 ways to promote from Midshipman to Lieutenant. The first is to gain enough xp and promote to Lieutenant automatically. The 2nd is to pass the Lieutenant exam in the academy and become Lieutenant without ever being at sea. This second is especially useful at the start since Midshipmen can't command a ship.

Lieutenant - Commander - Jr Post Captain - Post Captain - Sr Post Captain
These promotions happen automatically once you have reached enough xp.

    Sr Post Captain - Commodore
Sr Post Captains can lead fleets by getting the temporary Commodore rank. They get this rank as soon as they start a fleet and lose it once they disband their fleet.

Post Captain/Sr Post Captain - Admiral
The number of admirals is determined by the average number of Jr Post Captains or higher per country. Each country has the same number of admirals.

    16% become Rear Admiral
8% of them become Vice Admiral
    4% become Admiral
2% become Admiral of the Fleet

These numbers are rounded down, so you need at least 7 jpc or higher to get a Rear Admiral (16% of 6 is 0.96 which is rounded down to 0). The first Vice Admiral is promoted when there at least 13 jpc or higher per country, the first admiral at 25 and the first Admiral of the fleet at 50.

The order in which captains are promoted is by FP, and then by XP. Admiral ranks are only given or taken every 6 hours, at 0:01, 6:01,12:01 and 18:01

  • How does the navy ranking work?

The navy ranking is based on your xp, ships, gold, crew and rank.

    400*rank + 2*sqrt(xp) + 2*sqrt(gold/5) + 6*crewpoints + sqrt(totshipstrength/10)

where rank is 1 for midshipman, 2 for lieutenant etc, sqrt is the square root of a number (making extra xp/gold less important the more you already have of it) and crewpoints is the sum of (skill-40)^2 for all your crew. Ships that are still under construction do not count for your total ship strength.
