How does the random joining work?
When you are not in a country you have to pick a random new country. You are place randomly in one of the free spots, so the more free spots a country has the larger the chance you will end up there. If you want to play both army and navy you will be put in a country that has room for both army and navy. If you select only army or navy you will be put in a country that has space for your selection. You may later also join the same country with the other character if there is space, but this is not guaranteed. Paying players can also choose to join as a pirate. This is a navy-only feature so if you do this you will not have an army character but you have a navy war on the whole world. It is possible that no country has space for both army and navy, in this case nothing will happen when you click the "Join random both" button. You can then either wait for a space to become available (usually after ticks) or choose the character you prefer and join with only this character. If you don't like the country you ended up in you can suicide out of it, but you can only do this once per 72 hours. The only exception is if you by chance end up in the same country from which you previously suicided, you can then leave it again without waiting for 72 hours. In the rare event that this is the only country with free places then you will keep ending up in this country though.
^top What country does the white flag belong to? Sometimes you can see a white flag in the rankings. This is not actually a flag but an indicator to show that a player hasn't selected a country yet (either after signing up or after being in a country that got defeated).
^top What country do the white cities belong to? The white cities do not belong to any country; The city was the last city of a country and the country surrendered. When countries are losing a war and are in their last city, they can surrender to avoid the last (often bloody) battle. When a country surrenders, its players will go to another country and its last city will turn white on the map. Note that the "white" spot in the centre of the European map is not a city turned neutral, it is the neutral country Switzerland, which cannot be attacked by anyone.
^top What do the squares and circles mean on the map? Each square or circle represents a city. On the overview maps you can only see the squares and circles but on the detailed maps you can also see the city names.
- A black circle represents a small town. There's no castle in small towns*.
- A black square represents a city with a castle.
- A purple square represents a large city with a castle.
Capitals have no special symbol on the map.
*Note there can be a castle in a small town if it is or has been the capital of a country.
^top I'm in a small town but it has a castle, is that possible? Yes, that is possible if the small town is your capital (after having been moved) or has been the capital of any country.
^top What happens when a capital of a country gets conquered? When a country's capital gets conquered by an enemy, the capital is moved to another city. The new capital is picked at random from the largest cities of the country. If a country has only small towns without castle (little black circles on the map) left, one of those will become the capital and get a castle for the rest of the game (so the castle will stay even if the capital is moved again or the country is defeated).
^top There are inactives in my country. Can I court-martial them? No. CM'ing of inactives is considered abuse and you can get banned for it. The inactives are handled by the game itself. After someone hasn't logged on for 3 days they will be marked 'inactive' and will be removed from most aspects of the game, including the total country size.
^top What is this city value? Each city in the game has a city value. It starts at 0, but increases by 5 every turn. Whenever you capture a city, its value drops to 0 again. The limit of a city value per city is 4000 gold/day. The total amount of gold an officer in a country can get is capped 100k, even if the total city value is higher. Each day at 6 AM every officer in the country gets the total city worth of the country in gold. So if your country has 6 cities worth 100 gold each, each officer gets 600 gold from those cities.
^top How often does each terrain type appear on the map? These are the percentages for each terrain type, per continent:
- Europe: 40% Plains, 34% Forest, 25% Mountains, 1% Desert
- Asia: 32% Jungle, 17% Forest, 17% Savanna, 12% Desert, 11% Plains, 10% Mountains
